Overview
Totals is where you turn costs into the customer-facing price: profit, optional line items, discount, service charge, tax, and payment terms. Review the Statistics breakdown before you continue to documents.
Where in the app: Open an estimate → Totals (proposal step bar)
Open: Estimates
Calculate profit
Choose Percentage or Dollar Amount, enter the value, and review TOTAL PROFIT. Profit controls may be hidden for salesperson roles.
Line items
Under Line Items you can:
- Add, edit, and reorder customer-facing lines
- Mark lines Taxable or Optional
- Set Labor Time where applicable
- Use Add Components to pull catalog items
Materials Only estimates show Supply (or similar) instead of Supply & Installation, and labor, concrete, and other expenses stay out of the cost base.
Discount and tax
| Control | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Discount | Percent or amount off the subtotal |
| Tax | Pencil icon opens the tax modal (scope may be materials-only) |
Sub Total and Total update as you change these fields.
Service charge
A service charge is a document-level surcharge (the opposite of a discount). Common uses include a credit card convenience fee or processing fee.
Click Add service charge (or the pencil when one already exists), then set:
| Field | Purpose |
|---|---|
| % or $ | Percent of the post-discount subtotal, or a fixed dollar amount |
| Label | Text shown on the proposal and customer PDF (for example Convenience Fee). If blank, the line shows as Service charge |
| Taxable | When checked, tax is calculated on the charge as well |
The amount is added after the discount and before tax (when taxable). It appears on the Totals breakdown, estimate PDF, and customer portal with the label you entered.
The same service charge controls exist when you create invoices and sales receipts.
Payment terms
Configure Payment Terms for deposits and due dates on the proposal. Defaults often come from Business Settings.
