Overview
A fence estimate prices a layout drawn in the fence design tool. This guide covers the full path from creating the quote through customer acceptance.
Create estimate → Setup → Design tool → Proposal steps → Submit → Job
Where in the app: Sidebar → Estimates → Add Estimate, or Create menu → Estimate
Open: New Fence Estimate · Estimates
Step 1: Select customer
Search existing customers or add a new one. The selected customer owns the estimate and is the primary recipient when you send the proposal.
Use Change on the customer card if you picked the wrong person.
See Add a customer. You can also start from Convert opportunity to estimate.
Step 2: Project details
| Field | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Project Name | Yes | Short label for lists and reports |
| Job Site | Yes | Where the fence is installed; pick or add an address on the customer |
| Project Description | No | Scope notes for crew and proposal |
| Salesperson | No | Defaults from your session |
| Submission Deadline | No | Internal planning date; does not auto-send |
| On-site visit required? | No | When on, pick preferred date and arrival window |
This data appears later on the estimate list, designer Project panel, proposal documents, and the job when converted.
Step 3: Continue to setup and design
Click Continue to create the estimate and start the setup wizard:
- Fence type
- Fence style
- Height and color
- Select Canvas (Google Map, Blueprint, or Blank Canvas)
- Fence design tool: draw runs, gates, and curves
- Click Preview Quote to generate takeoffs and return to the estimate
New fence estimates default to materials and installation scope unless you change it on the Materials step later.
Re-open the drawing anytime from the estimate via Edit Drawing on the Summary step.
Step 4: Proposal steps
Use the step bar across the top of finalize screens. See Proposal steps for each screen.
| Step | Fence-specific notes |
|---|---|
| Summary | Quote info, scope, Edit Drawing link |
| Materials | Takeoffs from designer; adjust line items |
| Labor | Hidden for materials-only quotes |
| Expenses | Hidden for materials-only quotes |
| Totals | Tax, deposit, margin |
| Documents | Cover letter, contracts, shop drawings |
| Submit | Send to customer |
Materials-only scope skips Labor and Expenses.
Step 5: Send and follow up
Send to customer: email, portal link, PDF. Track submissions on the estimate detail page.
Step 6: Convert to job
When the customer accepts, Convert to job. Customer, jobsite, pricing, and documents carry forward.
