Overview
Dirt Face does not currently offer a self-serve CSV import for customer records. Customers are added through the app, created inline on documents, or captured automatically from integrations.
This guide covers every supported path and options for migrating a large list from another system.
Open: Customers
Add customers manually
| Method | Steps |
|---|---|
| Customers page | Customers → Add Customer — see Add a customer |
| Create menu | Create → Customer from anywhere in the app |
| During a document | Select or Add New Customer on estimates, RFQs, jobs, or invoices |
Each record stores contact info, addresses, tax settings, and relationship stage for the full job lifecycle.
Automatic customer creation (integrations)
| Source | How records arrive |
|---|---|
| Lead Generator | Web form submissions create opportunities linked to new or matched customers |
| Contact Form | Website inquiries flow into Opportunities |
| Store | Store checkout creates or links store accounts on existing customers |
Review and merge duplicates from the Customers list if the same person submits twice with slightly different emails.
QuickBooks Online
QuickBooks integration syncs new Dirt Face customers to QBO when enabled — it is not a bulk import from QuickBooks into Dirt Face on first connect.
For accounting alignment, create or clean up customers in Dirt Face first, then sync.
Migrating from another system
For large lists (legacy desktop software, spreadsheets, or another CRM):
- Priority contacts — Add active customers and open jobs manually first via Add Customer
- Catalog and templates — Use Smart Import and fence templates for parts data (separate from customers)
- CFS users — See Migrate from CFS for assisted migration from Contractor Fence Software
- Bulk migration — Contact Dirt Face support for help importing legacy customer exports — include your previous system name and approximate record count
Tip: Import parts and pricing before customer history so new quotes use correct costs on day one.
After customers exist
- Set relationship stage for pipeline reporting
- Attach job sites on the Customer info tab before estimating commercial work
- Link store accounts when the customer buys from your Dirt Face store
