Overview
The Time step converts layout quantities into labor hours for estimating. Define activities (install fabric, set posts, hang gates) with rates tied to feet, posts, panels, or other takeoff variables.

Time calculations
Each activity row includes:
| Field | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Activity name | Label on the estimate (for example, Set line posts) |
| Rate dimension | Unit of work — feet, each, posts, panels |
| Time per dimension | Minutes or hours to complete that unit |
| Variable | Which takeoff value drives the calc (total fence length, total posts, etc.) |
The wizard shows sample data (default example job) and calculated hours so you can verify formulas before saving.
Gate time
For each gate defined on the Gates step, enter install time per gate (hours or minutes). Gate labor adds to the template total when gates are placed on a layout.
Step-by-step
- Complete Gates and continue to Time.
- Add or edit time calculation rows for fence work.
- Adjust sample data values to mirror a typical job and confirm total hours look reasonable.
- Enter gate time for each gate type.
- Click Save and continue.
If Lead Generator is enabled, you proceed to Budget Pricing. Otherwise, save and close — the template wizard is complete.
Tips
- Default labor rates from Business Settings → Default Values can supplement template time; template time is specific to this fence style.
- At least one time calculation is required before saving.
