Overview
A fence type is a product line you sell — Chain Link, Wood Privacy, Vinyl, Ornamental Iron, and similar. Each fence type holds the heights and colors you offer for that line. Templates built under the fence type use those options when estimating.
Set up fence types before building templates. Templates need at least one height and one color defined on the fence type.
Where in the app: Sidebar → Fence → My Fences
Open: My Fences
Add a fence type
- Open My Fences and stay on the Cards view.
- Click Add Fence.
- Enter a name for the product line (for example, Chain Link Fence or 6 ft Vinyl Privacy).
- Optionally upload a thumbnail image for the card (PNG or JPG, up to 5 MB).
- Save.
Tip: Create one fence type per distinct product line. Use heights and colors inside that type to cover variations — do not create separate fence types for each height (for example, avoid "Chain Link 4ft" and "Chain Link 6ft" as two types).
Set up heights
Heights are the standard sizes you install and quote for this fence type.
- Click the fence type card to open its detail view.
- Expand Heights.
- Add each height you offer (4 ft, 5 ft, 6 ft, 8 ft, or custom values).
- Save changes.
Heights appear in the template builder and on estimates when a customer picks a size.
Set up colors
Colors are the material finishes available for this fence type. They use the same global palette as My Components (Black, Galvanized, White, Tan, Cedar, and similar).
- On the fence type detail view, expand Colors.
- Choose from existing colors first — pick names already used on catalog components.
- Only add a custom color when no existing name fits, and use that same name when you set up catalog sections and components.
- Save changes.
Warning: Fence colors and catalog colors must use the exact same names. The template builder matches components by color name automatically — it does not guess synonyms.
Example: You sell tan vinyl and your posts, rails, and caps in My Components are all color Tan. On the fence type, select Tan from the palette. Do not create a new color called Light Brown for the same product. The template wizard looks for Tan parts; Light Brown on the fence will not pull in Tan components, and you will configure every line by hand or leave gaps on quotes.
See Colors on catalog sections for the catalog side of the same rule.
