Overview

Vendor Assignment Tool links vendors to groups of components in My Components without editing each part one at a time. Filter parts by an existing vendor relationship, optionally narrow by fence type, category, or collection, then assign a new vendor or change the default vendor on every matching row.

Where in the app: Sidebar → Fence → My Components → Catalog tools → Vendor Assignment Tool
Open: Vendor Assignment Tool

When to use this tool

Use Vendor Assignment Tool when you are switching suppliers, adding an alternate vendor across a product line, or correcting default vendor settings after a bulk import.

Skip it when you only need to refresh costs from a price sheet. Use Import Vendor Costs (CSV) or Cost Update Wizard instead. See Related.

Step 1: Open Vendor Assignment Tool

  1. Go to Fence → My Components. Open My Components
  2. Click Catalog tools on the toolbar.
  3. Choose Vendor Assignment Tool. Open Vendor Assignment Tool

Step 2: Choose an operation

Pick one of two modes at the top of the page:

ModeWhat it does
Assign New VendorAdds a vendor to matching components. The new vendor's initial cost is copied from the current default vendor on each part.
Set Default VendorMakes the selected vendor the default on matching components, replacing the current default.

Step 3: Filter components

  1. Choose Filter by Vendor (required). This lists components that already have that vendor assigned.
  2. Optionally choose a fence type, category, and one or more collections to narrow the group.
  3. Confirm the matching components count is greater than zero.

If the count is zero, pick a different filter vendor or widen your fence type and category selections.

Step 4: Select target vendor and run

  1. Choose Target Vendor: the supplier you want to assign or set as default.
  2. For Assign New Vendor, optionally check Set as default vendor for all selected components.
  3. Click Assign Vendor or Set as Default.

When the run finishes, updated parts appear in My Components with the new vendor relationships. Future quotes use the default vendor's cost unless a part has multiple vendors configured.

Warning: Set Default Vendor replaces the current default on every matching component. Review the matching count before you confirm.
