QuickBooks tax import
When QuickBooks is connected:

Secondary locations can Copy from Primary to duplicate tax rates and zones from the main profile.
Tax library
Add, edit, or delete tax rates:
| Field | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Name | Label on documents (e.g. "State Sales Tax") |
| Rate % | Percentage applied |
| Tax type | Category for reporting |
| Description | Internal notes |
Assign library rates to one or more tax zones.
Tax calculation rules
Organization-wide defaults for new documents:
| Setting | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Materials-only tax | Contractor rule — tax only material portion, not labor |
| Tax base (when materials-only on) | Material selling price or material cost |
Applies to new quotes, invoices, and sales receipts. Individual documents can override.
Tax zones (optional)
Auto-apply rates by jobsite jurisdiction:
- Zone types: city, county, state
- Zip code lookup
- Assign one or more library rates per zone
Dirt Face can also detect jurisdiction from the customer jobsite address when creating quotes or jobs.
