Overview
Dirt Face is fence manufacturing software for shops that build panels, gates, and other make items in house. A won estimate becomes production orders. The shop builds on routing and work centers. Then you schedule install. The same catalog feeds quotes, inventory, and the wholesale store.
You do not need a separate factory MRP for typical fence fabrication.
Step 1: Mark shop-fabricated catalog items
On make items, turn on shop fabricated. Choose kit or assembled. Attach a bill of materials and an optional routing template.
Purchased complete parts skip this path.
Step 2: Win the estimate and convert to a job
Build the quote with those components. When the customer accepts, convert to a job. Dirt Face drafts production orders: one order per make SKU with the job quantity.
Step 3: Release to the shop
Office reviews drafts, assigns routing if needed, and releases orders. The production board shows status. Shop people start and complete steps in Shop My Work.
Step 4: Build, then schedule install
When fab is ready or staged, schedule crews and equipment. Inventory reserved leaf BOM materials so the field is not waiting on sticks and hardware.
Make-to-stock builds finished goods into the warehouse with no job. Those goods can sell on the wholesale store or go onto a later job.
Who this is for
- Fence manufacturers running make-to-order or make-to-stock
- Contractor-fabricators who quote and build in the same shop
- Multi-location companies that fabricate in one yard and install from another
FAQ
Is this the same as ERP?
No. Dirt Face is fence-specific shop fabrication plus estimating and wholesale. It is not a generic factory ERP.
Can I fabricate without installing?
Yes. Use production and inventory. Skip crew scheduling if you only ship finished goods.
