Overview

This guide walks through creating your first fence estimate and sending the proposal to a customer, from customer record through PDF delivery.

Before you begin

Complete onboarding setup first:

  • Business Settings — company info, team, tax, defaults, integrations
  • Smart Import — component catalog
  • Fence templates — My Fences

Step 1: Add or select a customer

  1. Open Customers from the sidebar
  2. Click Add Customer or select an existing customer
  3. Enter name, email, and job site address

Step 2: Start a new estimate

  1. Go to Estimates and click New Estimate (Add estimate)
  2. Select the customer you added
  3. Choose Fence Estimate (or General Quote for non-fence work)

Step 3: Design and price the job

Use the designer tool to draw the fence layout on the map or upload a site plan. Dirt Face calculates materials and labor based on your catalog and default values.

Tip: Margins and labor rates come from Business Settings → Default Values. Adjust them before your first quote if your pricing differs from defaults.

Step 4: Review and send

  1. Open Proposal Totals to review line items, tax, and deposit
  2. Generate the PDF proposal
  3. Email the quote to your customer or share via the customer portal

Next steps

  • Connect QuickBooks to sync invoices after the job is won
  • Convert an accepted quote to a Job and schedule crews on the Schedule calendar
